About the Workshop:
Come spend an afternoon smoothing out the kinks that come along with the joys of a new baby while connecting with other new parents through the practice of yoga.
In this class we will focus on poses for both parents, yet highlighting ones that assist the pospartum mother in restoring her body's balance after the miraculous transformation from pregnancy to birth to motherhood. Special emphasis will be given to twists, abdominal strengtheners, chest openers, yogic breathing, alternative postures for nursing and restorative poses, all which can be done while holding baby or with baby resting nearby. We will also go through a basic infant massage sequence to aid in baby's relaxation and digestion. Our practice will culminate with an extended period of relaxation. This class will be suitable for parents with babies from 3 weeks to crawling, with any level of yoga experience (beginners welcome!). Either parent may come alone with the baby. No older siblings, please.
As parenting is now a part of your yoga practice, nursing, diapering and attending to your babies other needs will be welcome here. Nursing mothers may want to bring a light snack for themselves. |
About the Instructor:
Britt Fohrman spends most of her time honoring pregnant women and new moms by teaching pre and post natal yoga, doing pre and post natal bodywork, taking photographs and being a Doula (childbirth assistant); though she still loves working with a variety of un-pregnant people. Her yoga classes are based on the alignment principles and teachings of BKS and Geeta Iyengar, and are playfully rounded out by influences of other innovative teachers, including Colette Crawford, RN, the top specialist in yoga for pregnancy, birth and postpartum. |
